Pacific Energy has been honoured at the prestigious Engineers Australia awards in Melbourne for its outstanding work on the Swinburne University of Technology Victorian Hydrogen Hub—CSIRO Hydrogen Refuelling Station.

As part of its partnership with Swinburne University under the Victorian Hydrogen Hub (VH2) initiative, CSIRO appointed Pacific Energy to design, supply, install, and commission a hydrogen refuelling station at its Clayton campus in Melbourne. This refuelling station is a significant milestone in the development of CSIRO’s Hydrogen Industry Mission, which aims to promote the adoption of hydrogen in Australia through industry partnerships and research.

Officially launched in November 2023, the refuelling station was designed, constructed, and commissioned by Pacific Energy. Its innovative compact and integrated design provides a scalable solution for the production and dispensing of green hydrogen for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) and the demonstrates the potential for hydrogen to decarbonise transport in Australia.

Pacific Energy provided a turnkey solution, including detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up services, as well as ongoing post-start-up support for operations and maintenance. The complexity and specialised knowledge required to maintain the project made Pacific Energy the ideal partner for this endeavour.

This recent accolade follows Pacific Energy’s announcement earlier this year of establishing a stronger east coast presence, with its Connected Energy division headquartered in Melbourne. This strategic move positions the company to better serve its increasingly diverse customer base as decarbonisation becomes more urgent.

Pacific Energy Connected Energy division managing director Mark Sinclair said, “I’m incredibly proud of the team and their well-deserved recognition with this award. There is tremendous opportunity for the PEC team to continue to grow and be an engineering and delivery partner of choice for renewable energy projects on the east coast and the National Electricity Market (NEM).”

Pacific Energy will now join the winners from other states for the National Awards ceremony in November.
