The Tablelands Regional Council has approved the 81MW Atherton Solar Farm in Far North Queensland.

Near the town of Tolga, an hour and a half south-west of Cairns, the project is owned by Australian-based NESI Australia, the parent company of which is Qingdao New Energy Solutions (NESI).

NESI currently has three projects being developed in Australia with a total projected output of 180MW.

Negotiations with Energy Queensland regarding the required 66kV connection agreement are now in their final stages. Construction is expected to commence in Q3 2019.

It’s not yet clear whether the project will have battery storage capability.

NESI currently has in excess of 1GW of PV generation facilities globally, mostly in China.
