A new survey of Queensland households has revealed energy use is a prime concern, with 76% of respondents saying they had consciously tried to reduce their electricity consumption over the past 12 months.
More than 4,300 households participated in this year’s Queensland Household Energy Survey, which has been conducted every year since 2009.

Some interesting take-aways from the survey include:
- 59% of those surveyed said they were highly concerned about their ongoing ability to pay their electricity bill
- 67% of participants said they would consider purchasing a battery electric car or plug-in hybrid car within the next three years
- 15% of survey participants said they were looking to invest in battery storage within the next decade to reduce their electricity bills and increase their self-sufficiency
- of the 22% of respondents who intend to buy, upgrade, or replace rooftop solar within three years, more than half were seeking a larger system to reduce their power bill
- this year, more households showed a willingness to explore home energy management tools and services.
Energex, Ergon Energy Network, and Powerlink are set to use these and other insights to help inform investment in the state’s grid.
