Construction begins at Palmer Wind Farm in SA

Australian-owned Tilt Renewables has started construction of the 288MW Palmer Wind Farm, 70km east of Adelaide between Palmer and Tungkillo.

Construction is expected to take two years and once completed the project will generate up to 288MW of renewable energy—enough to power up to 142,000 homes.

Tilt Renewables CEO Anthony Fowler said, “The start of construction is a major milestone for Palmer Wind Farm and follows more than a decade of planning, consultation and design refinement.

“Over this time, we’ve worked hard to reduce its environmental and community impacts cutting the number of turbines from 103 to 40 while maintaining similar energy output.

“We’ve worked closely with council, our landholders and neighbours to share in the benefits this project brings. Neighbours, the local community and First Nations people will receive more than $13 million in benefits over the life of the project.”

Construction is starting this week and will initially involve preparing the site including access points, internal track network, and site offices.

Tilt Renewables will hold monthly drop-in sessions throughout construction process.

Vestas will supply and install 40 of its flagship V172-7.2 MW EnVentus wind turbines for the project, while BMD is handling the electrical works and civil balance of plant. Grid connection is being carried out by ElectraNet.
