More than 24km of ageing gas mains in Hamilton will be replaced as part of an $8.2 million investment by AusNet, Victoria’s largest energy network business.
Works are about to start across the Hamilton CBD and surrounding areas, with the upgrades set to roll out across the network over the next 12 to 18 months.

AusNet executive general manager gas and metering Fran Duiker said the project would replace older cast iron, PVC and galvanised pipes with modern high-pressure polyethylene (poly) pipes.
“Upgrading these older mains will reduce the risk of gas leaks and strengthen the reliability of the network,” she said.
The new pipes are inserted inside existing lines, which means less digging and less disruption for Hamilton locals. The works have also been scheduled to minimise the impact to businesses and the community.
The upgrades will also help support consistent gas supply during peak winter demand and reduce the likelihood of outages caused by leaks or blockages.
“We’re committed to delivering a safer, more reliable gas network for Warrnambool and thank local customers and businesses for their patience while these important works are carried out,” Duiker said.
