Pacific Energy has been contracted to deliver the next stage of Territory Generation’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Program. The project will see utility-scale battery systems deployed across the Alice Springs and Darwin–Katherine power systems. Once operational, the batteries will enhance system stability and efficiency and enable more solar generation to be connected to the grid.
Pacific Energy will design, manufacture, supply, install and integrate battery energy storage systems capable of delivering 33.5MW of power and 81MWh of energy across Territory Generation’s power stations in Alice Springs and Katherine. The BESS will provide essential frequency and voltage control services, and in Alice Springs, the BESS will facilitate energy shifting to support system stability and capacity during minimum and peak demand periods.

Pacific Energy will also provide a 10-year service support agreement, backed by its locally based team that commenced operations in 2022.
Pacific Energy CEO Mike Hall said, “This award signals an exciting new chapter for Pacific Energy in the Northern Territory, and for our long-term partnership with Territory Generation. The BESS Program is one of the most technically significant BESS projects we have undertaken, and it represents a real vote of confidence in our capability to deliver resilient, grid-stabilising solutions at scale.”
The project builds on Pacific Energy’s previous battery integration work supporting Territory Generation, including programming and integration support for the first Darwin–Katherine BESS, which recently demonstrated strong performance during a system outage.
Hall said the partnership with Territory Generation continues to strengthen.
“We value the trust Territory Generation has placed in us. This project is about unlocking more solar generation for the Territory while maintaining the reliability and strength of the power system, and we’re proud to support infrastructure that enables that balance at scale,” he said.
“This project draws on our deep technical experience, our Australian-based engineering and manufacturing capability, and our focus on long term asset performance.”
