The employee is reportedly one of OCI’s construction contractors.
Woodside has issued a statement saying the incident occurred during work activity being carried out at the site, and that all other employees were safe and accounted for.
Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill said, “This is a very sad day, and I offer my deepest sympathy to our colleague’s family, friends and workmates.
“The safety of our workforce is always our top priority, and we are providing full support to OCI and its contracting company.
“We are taking steps to understand the circumstances around this tragic event and are working closely with relevant authorities and regulators, OCI and the contractor company. A full investigation will be initiated and a stand down of all work is currently in place.”
This is the second worksite fatality on a Woodside project in 18 months, following the death of a contracted worker on the company’s North Rankin gas platform located off the Pilbara coast.
