
Western Power will construct 18 community batteries with a combined 6.6MW of storage capacity across Perth and Bunbury in Western Australia.

The 13 low-voltage and 5 medium-voltage batteries will helping harness rooftop solar generation and redeploy the energy during the evening peak when demand increases.
Once online by mid-2027, the community batteries will help to bring down systemwide costs, reduce emissions, and provide improved grid stability.
Approximately 130 households will be connected into each metropolitan battery, with about 3,600 households connected across the five larger Bunbury sites.
Through Round 1 of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) Community Battery program, the Australian Government has provided $9.34 million towards the $25 million total project cost.
Five community batteries have already been deployed across Perth in Coogee, Bayswater, Stratton, Kinross and Port Kennedy through the Community Batteries for Household Solar program.
