CleanCo provided notification of the outage to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and has been working closely with the original equipment manufacturer and independent experts to carry out the associated repair to the unit, which underwent a major overhaul last year.
While Swanbank E was originally scheduled to return to service on April 18, inspections identified two additional flange fittings requiring attention.
The return to service date has again been pushed back, with a CleanCo spokesperson saying, “At CleanCo, safety is our top priority. We’re taking the time to complete works at Swanbank E safely and thoroughly, with the unit now expected to return to service on 26 April.
“The revised timeline is due to the availability of specialist equipment for the completion of additional assurance activities.”
Swanbank E is a gas-fired power station located near Ipswich. In 2011 it broke the world record for continuous operation, running for 254 days straight prior to shutting down for planned maintenance.
