New gas main to ensure reliability of supply in western Sydney

Jemena has successfully completed the laying of a 200mm steel gas main along Guntawong Road, Clarke Street and Garfield Road East in Sydney’s west.

The main, which is 4.6kms in length, has been connected to the existing gas mains at Riverstone and Rouse Hill.

Jemena general gas manager Peter Bowden said the new main will ensure reliability of gas supply in the face of growing demand for natural gas.

โ€œOver the next 20 to 25 years, more than 60,000 dwellings are forecast to be built in the western Sydney area,” he said.

โ€œEach year we lay about 200km of new mains and we add 30,000 new customer sites to the gas network each year.

โ€œIn the past seven years, the total number of homes and businesses connected to the network has increased by 235,000.”
