Neoen Australia has announced construction of a new battery at its Culcairn Solar Farm in New South Wales’ south-east Riverina region.

The 215MW/963MWh battery will be built with NHOA Energy and a joint venture between Equans Solar & Storage and Bouygues Construction Australia, with operations expected in 2028.

The project takes Neoen’s total renewable energy and storage capacity in NSW and ACT above 1GW.

Notably, the asset will be Neoen’s first ‘behind-the-meter’ battery co-located at a solar farm, supporting grid stability in the national electricity market and helping deliver the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.

The 440MWp (350MW AC) Culcairn Solar Farm, which became operational in May 2026, is Neon’s second largest solar asset globally and will produce enough energy to power 160,000 homes in a year.

Neoen Australia is set to launch its First Nations and Community Benefit Fund on the asset to support and share benefits with the people living in and around Culcairn.
