Greeks are reducing their power consumption in the face of rising energy prices, with power-grid operator ADMIE reporting a 27.5% reduction in medium- and low-voltage power use by households and businesses when compared to 2021.

According to Neos Kosmos, ADMIE also reported a 27.542% drop in consumption by high-voltage businesses over the same period that came after increased use of 8.9% in June and 13.5% in May.

Kathimerini reported that this was attributed to a 50% drop in usage in July by the Larco mining company and did not reflect a general fall by domestic high energy users in industry.

Experts predict the weather will play an important part in the level of demand for gas and electricity, with many hoping for a mild winter to help reduce reliance on heating.
