New Opposition Leader Angus Taylor has announced his shadow ministry, with Dan Tehan retaining the energy portfolio, which he has held since 2025.

Tehan, who is the federal member for Wannon, will also take on the role of Manager of Opposition Business in the lower house.

He was one on many Liberals who resigned from Shadow Cabinet ahead of last week’s leadership spill, with hopes of nabbing the deputy leadership. However, Jane Hume was tapped for the 2IC position instead.

The new shadow ministry has seen the promotion of several prominent MPs, including West Australia’s Andrew Hastie and the Northern Territory’s Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, who were respectively handed the industry and small business portfolios.

“This is a team that blends proven experience with the next generation of Coalition talent,” Taylor said.

“The team is designed to do two key things—one, prosecute Labor’s failures … and two, ensure the Coalition changes Australia for the better.”

Meanwhile, the new Opposition Leader has signalled the Coalition is likely to continue to push for nuclear energy in Australia, despite a parliamentary inquiry’s interim findings that nuclear power generation in Australia would be too late and too costly.
