According to ABC News, Acciona’s proposed Bellwether Wind Farm would comprise 400 6.2MW wind turbines with an enormous total capacity of 3GW.

The wind farm would be built on 100,000ha of farmland situated 170km south-east of Perth across the shires of West Arthur, Williams, Wagin and Narrogin.

The proposed wind farm would be almost three times the size of Australia’s largest wind project, the 1.3GW Golden Plains wind farm in Victoria.

On its project website, Acciona says, “We are developing a flagship renewable energy project for the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, strategically located along the proposed Clean Energy Link—East transmission line.

“The project would provide drought-resistant incomes to farmers and support local towns with new business opportunities. Additionally, the project would be able to support local community members seeking to retrain or re-skill into the sector, and provide power to existing businesses seeking to decarbonise their operations.”
