Edify Energy is seeking approval under the federal government’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act for its Nowingi Solar Power Station, which will comprise a 300MW solar farm and an integrated 300MW/2.4GWh battery energy storage system (BESS).

To be located within the Mildura Rural City Council Local Government Area of Victoria, the project will connect to the grid via AusNet’s existing 220kV transmission line, with Edify to construct a new project substation. This will require a new T-connection into the existing transmission line, and the construction of a new step-down transformer from 220kV to 33kV.

The 637ha site is currently used for grazing and crops, and Edify’s project submission says the company will consider the co-location on sheep grazing on the completed site—a practice known as ‘solar grazing’.

Edify Energy anticipates construction of the solar and storage project will commence in 2026 and will likely take 18 months to complete.

Edify is also currently developing the 250MW Muskerry Power Station, another solar and storage project, in Victoria.

The company’s current portfolio will provide more than 770MW of renewable energy through large-scale solar and energy storage. Spread over seven sites, it produce enough electricity to power over 280,000 Australian homes.
