$34 million investment to the Whitsunday region’s network

One of Queensland’s major tourism hubs is getting a much needed network upgrade.

A $34 million investment by Powerlink Queensland will improve network performance in the Whitsunday region, and support continued economic growth.

The project involves refit works along the 76km Collinsville to Proserpine transmission line, which supplies high voltage electricity to Collinsville, Proserpine and the broader Whitsunday region.

The existing transmission line was  built in 1967, and condition assessments identified a number of components that needed to be refitted. The focus will be on replacing worn components, painting towers, and installing new insulators on more than 190 towers along the line.

Powerlink chief executive Merryn York said the major investment, considered the most cost-effective solution to meet network and reliability requirements, would support more than 90 jobs.

Work will commence in mid-2016, with project completion expected by late 2018.
