Woodside Energy has withdrawn the environmental application for its proposed 300MW H2Tas hydrogen production project at Bell Bay in Tasmania.

Slated to form part of the Bell Bay Hydrogen Hub,ย H2Tas was set to become a 1.7GW hydrogen export facility. Its 300MW electrolyser would be capable of producing 107 tonnes of hydrogen per day, with potential exports of 600 tonnes of ammonia.

Last year, the Tasmanian Government announced hydrogen grants would be only be issued for hydrogen projects aimed at domestic supply rather than the export market.

Woodside’s Half Year Report revealed the oil and gas giant had withdrawn environmental applications, and stated the company was continuing to assess the project’s viability.

Woodside recently announced its acquisition of OCI Clean Ammonia Holding B.V. and its lower carbon ammonia project in Texas.

The project is under construction and targets production of first ammonia from 2025 and lower carbon ammonia from 2026.
