US renewable company First Solar is set to develop a 10MW power station in Western Australia.
Following the City of Fremantle calling for proposals for a large-scale solar farm at a former rubbish dump, First Solar is now responsible for the cost, construction and operation of the solar farm.
It has been granted a one year window to act as the exclusive proponent of the project.
The 20ha area operated as a landfill site for more than 50 years until 1991, and is currently classified as contaminated and in need of remediation.
Solar energy is developing rapidly in Fremantle, where ET Solar is reportedly in negotiations to set up a 9MW rooftop system in conjunction with a local business.
