An investigation is underway after a turbine collapsed at Nysäter wind project in Sweden just weeks after it was inaugurated, Recharge News reported.

The turbine fell at the 475MW wind project around midday on Saturday. No one was injured, however, but there was a suspected oil leak from the affected turbine’s gearbox, requiring the operator to close the wind farm and urge the public to stay away.

Developed by RWE Renewables Sweden, Nysäter wind farm comprises 114 Nordex wind turbines.

Investigations will begin this week, RWE Renewables Sweden said, and the wind farm will remain closed until the report is finalised.

A similar scenario unfolded at Alinta Wind Farm in Western Australia in late June, when a turbine collapsed and a four-week shutdown was immediately implemented by owner Iberdrola Australia.

“The collapse occurred on private agricultural land. There were no injuries to people and no known injuries to wildlife. At this stage it appears that private property damage is limited to a fence dividing two paddocks along with a portion of a recently planted Canola crop,” Iberdrola Australia said in a statement.
