Sydney-based solar startup SunDrive has demonstrated with China-headquartered heterojunction (HJT) equipment manufacturer Maxwell Technologies a record solar cell efficiency of 26.07 per cent on a full-size silicon HJT solar cell.
SunDrive said the record was set using the company’s technology, which replaces the expensive silver used in conventional solar PV cells with cheaper and more readily available copper, and large-scale production processes provided by Maxwell Technologies.

SunDrive’s record result has been officially verified by Germany’s Institute for Solar Energy Research (ISFH) and is more than 0.5 per cent higher than the 25.54 per cent world-record achievement announced by the company in September last year.
SunDrive said the improved efficiency had been observed in open-circuit voltage (Voc), short circuit current (Isc) and fill factor (FF), and was attributable to equipment and processing upgrades.
