A $400 million solar project to be developed by Spanish group Fotowatio has received the greenlight from the Queensland Government.
Fotowatio has proposed a 150MW solar project near Ayr in Burdekin Shire.
The Queensland Government, which has a target of 50 per cent renewable generation by 2030, said it had approved the project after a thorough assessment process. The approval includes a condition Fotowatio rehabilitate the site “as far as practical” to its pre-development state.
Construction work is expected to begin as early as next year, and take up to 18 months.
The project is expected to produce enough electricity to power 65,000 homes.
The Burdekin Shire project is the second significant renewable project to be given the greenlight in Queensland this month, following the go-ahead for the $140 million Kennedy solar and wind hybrid park.
