Powerlink has energised the connection to Iberdrola Australia’s Broadsound Solar Farm ahead of schedule—an important step in delivering more power generation in Central Queensland.
This means Iberdrola Australia can commence testing before exporting to the National Electricity Market (NEM) once construction of the solar farm is complete.

Powerlink interim CEO Darryl Rowell said the milestone marked more than two years of collaboration with Iberdrola Australia.
“Working together, we were able to energise the connection early despite the challenges the teams faced, including flooding from Tropical Cyclone Alfred earlier this year,” he said.
“More than 350 people have been involved in the connection work between Iberdrola Australia and Powerlink’s substations.
“This work also included upgrading our Broadsound Substation to facilitate the connection.
“Achieving energisation of the connection now allows Iberdrola Australia to proceed to testing before being able to export solar energy to the grid.”
Rowell added, “Queensland’s Energy Roadmap identified the significant body of work Powerlink is undertaking in Central Queensland to reinforce our network and facilitate connection of new power generation sources.
