Microsoft has inked a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with EDP Renewables (EDPR) in Singapore.

The PPA will see Microsoft purchase 100% of the renewable energy exported to the grid from EDPRโ€™s SolarNova 8 project, comprising up to 200MWp of capacity.

Earlier this year, EDPR was awarded Phase 8 of the SolarNova program, consisting of installing up to 200MWp of solar capacity spanning across 1,075 Singapore public housing buildings and 101 government-owned buildings.

The project is both the largest solar project in Singapore and the largest initiative under the governmentโ€™s SolarNova program.

“We are strengthening EDPโ€™s global collaboration with Microsoft through this project and together we are taking a step towards achieving Singaporeโ€™s sustainability goals of at least 2GWp of solar energy by 2030.

“Contracting with Microsoft is a catalyst for accelerating the energy transition and to continue investing in the region,โ€ EDP Renewables CEO Miguel Stilwell Dโ€™Andrade said.

Microsoft general manager of renewables and carbon free energy Adrian Anderson said, โ€œMicrosoft appreciates the global relationship that weโ€™ve built with EDPR, enabling our companies to drive grid decarbonisation efforts in Singapore, the US and Europe.

“Building our renewable energy portfolio with EDPR ensures that we can continue to secure renewable energy supply to meet our Microsoftโ€™s ambitious renewable energy and decarbonisation goals.โ€
