A $35 million overhaul starts at CS Energy’s Kogan Creek Power Station this weekend, creating work for approximately 450 contractors and bringing $3 million in flow-on benefits to the Western Downs.

CS Energy CEO Andrew Bills said the power station is being overhauled from September 17 to early November to ensure it would be in prime condition for summer.

“This overhaul will have a peak workforce of approximately 500 people, comprising up to 450 overhaul contractors and about 50 employees from the power station’s permanent workforce,” Bills said.

“The contractor workforce will primarily be drawn from the three major contractors—Downer Group, Intertek and Siemens—and there are local contractors involved too such as RIE Group, Healy Contracting Group, and Chinchilla Fluid Power.

“This will provide an economic boost to Chinchilla and Dalby, both from the extra workers onsite and the flow-on benefits to local service industries such as accommodation providers, caterers and transport companies.

“CS Energy will have additional COVID-19 controls in place to keep power station workers and the local community safe.”

CS Energy regularly overhauls its power stations to keep them running safely, reliably and efficiently.

“Kogan Creek’s last major overhaul was carried out in 2019,” Bills said.

“This overhaul includes a range of inspections, maintenance and upgrades, and will return Kogan Creek to its full capacity of 750MW.”
