Chinese PV manufacturer Jinergy has supplied 6MW solar panels to the Whyalla solar farm in South Australia.
The SSE Australia project, the first utility-scale solar power plant for the state, was officially opened by the Premier of South Australia Jay Weatherill last week.
Jinergy supplied 17,280 passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC) monocrystalline solar panels, which can generate more power than regular solar panels with solar cell efficiency more than 21.6 per cent.
The project is estimated to generate 10GWh electricity each year after grid-connection and will be on service for at least 25 years.
Once complete, the 6MW solar power plant will pump out 1GWh per year and reduce carbon emissions by 261,230 tonnes.
It has a projected life span of 25 years, giving investors and the planet a great return.
