Energy and water distribution company Jemena has joined UnitingCare’s support service CareRing.
CareRing brings together utility companies, financial institutions and other organisations to provide support to customers at risk of financial hardship.
Customers are referred to CareRing by UnitingCare’s Kildonan staff, who are on the lookout for warning signs a customer may be falling into financial hardship, such as not being able to pay a bill.
CareRing services range from financial counseling, microfinance or referral to other agencies for more support.
Jemena customer relations manager Steve Dooley said CareRing provided a practical way to support vulnerable customers in its electricity network.
“As an energy distributor, we’re out in the community every day, so it’s great to be able to easily connect customers to a central, free and confidential support network,” he said.
