Australian and New Zealand smart metering and data intelligence provider Intellihub has signed the largest IoT deal in Telstra’s history, supporting its growing smart metering deployments on behalf of more than 40 electricity retail customers.
The 10-year deal secures a scalable IoT solution leveraging Telstra’s IoT networks to process near real time smart metering data from Australian homes and businesses.

The deal can accommodate around 4 million connected devices and was constructed using a simple and scalable structure that allows for additional value added services as Telstra and Intellihub continue to grow together.
Intellihub CEO Wes Ballantine said increasing penetration of rooftop solar and growing interest in batteries, EVs and behind-the-meter distributed energy resources was fuelling the need for more smart meters.
“The smart meter is an essential part of the billing process, but it’s also an enabler of so many other new energy services inside Australian homes,” Ballantine said.
“Data is key to providing these metering services. The 10 year deal secures a scalable IoT solution, better service levels and unlocks insights from the metering data.
“It means fast and secure billing services and supports the rapid digitisation and decentralization of the country’s energy sector.
“Ultimately, this deal is another example of how connected technology is driving a better customer experience via enhanced data insights.”
Under a separate agreement, Intellihub has also been confirmed as a key metering supplier for Telstra Energy customers.
The high speed Intelli-M smart meter and Intelli-ConX communications bridge will be deployed under the contract, capable of providing sub-second, high-speed measurements for additional solar control and VPP-style services.

“Intellihub has a proven capability in delivering reliable and innovative smart metering services to our retail customers,” Ballantine said.
“We have more than 1.2 million smart meters under management across Australia and New Zealand, and a significant pipeline over the next decade.
“Our agreement with Telstra Energy will help continue our growth in smart metering services across Australia.
