Murdoch University and Li Valley have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish an Innovation Hub at Murdoch University’s Rockingham Campus, focussing on global energy transformation.
Professor Simon McKirdy, Pro Vice Chancellor of the Harry Butler Institute at Murdoch University said the Hub aimed to grow the expertise in and market for energy transformation, power storage, battery cells, critical raw materials processing services, and data analysis.
“The Innovation Hub will enable transformational research to link with key innovative companies to develop new technologies for a clean energy future,” Professor McKirdy said.

“Battery storage is the holy grail for enabling more renewable energy to power the grid, displacing fossil fuels as our main source of energy.
“Western Australia has the natural resources and the expertise to lead in the development of this important industry and the Innovation Hub will be integral to this.”
Murdoch University is also strategically locating its Hydrometallurgy Research Group at the Rockingham Campus given its strong linkages with the new energy industries currently locating within the Western Trade Coast and across Western Australia.
Professor McKirdy said the Innovation Hub will also provide a forum to discuss and exchange information in new approaches to energy across the value chain.
