The Australian Government has appointed David Shankey as the first CEO of the Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA).

This news comes as the government’s Future Made in Australia legislation passed the Parliament of Australia.
Shankey brings a wealth of experience in energy and climate policy, having led Queensland’s 10-year Energy and Jobs Plan as Deputy Director-General.
Prior to this, Shankey was executive director energy markets at Queensland’s Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy.
“The Net Zero Economy Authority is key to unlocking our potential as a renewable energy superpower, ensuring that workers and regions realise the benefits of this transformation. I congratulate David Shankey on his appointment and look forward to working with him in this vital role,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

The Net Zero Economy Authority is pivotal to Australia’s decarbonisation journey, ensuring communities, state, territory and local governments, regional bodies, unions, industry, investors and First Nations groups share in the benefits of the global shift to net zero.
