In less than four months, the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries program has seen 100,000 households and small businesses by install home batteries, totalling 2GWh of storage.

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program cames into effect on July 1, with the federal government offering approximately 30% off the upfront cost of a small-scale battery for homes, businesses, and community groups.
Pairing a battery with a rooftop solar system can almost double a household’s savings, with up to $2,300 less per year on power bills for the average family compared to $1,500 with solar only.
Hardware giant Bunnings and digital energy management specialist Intellihub quickly siezed the opportunity to enter the solar and home battery market, launching a new offer to Australians looking to electrify their homes. Zelora allows customers to buy and install solar energy and battery packages for their homes managed through an all-inclusive, simple subscription without major upfront costs.
Alinta Energy and the National Renewable Network also launched a solar, battery, and Virtual Power Plant (VPP) offer with no upfront costs called Solar Together.
Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said, “Australia is a solar nation—with the highest rate of rooftop solar anywhere in the world. Our program takes the next step, delivering a game changer for household bills.
“In just four months, 100,000 Aussie families have jumped at the opportunity to slash their energy bills for good by installing a Cheaper Home Battery.
