Canberra’s third community battery has powered up in the nation’s capital.

Co-funded, built and managed by Evoenergy in partnership with the ACT government, the 450kWh Dickson community battery will help more households share in cheaper, cleaner energy and strengthening the local grid reliability as more rooftop solar comes online.

This battery joins community batteries in Casey and Fadden, following an investment of $1.5 million from the federal government in batteries across the ACT, forming a growing network of neighbourhood-scale energy storage solutions.

The Community Batteries for Household Solar program is delivering 400 community batteries across Australia, making our energy system fairer and ensuring more Aussies can reap the rewards from cheaper renewables, regardless of if they have solar or not, are renters or homeowners.

Community batteries drive down electricity costs and boost reliability by absorbing excess rooftop solar during the day and feeding it back to the grid at night. They can also avoid costly upgrades to the electricity network’s pole and wires.

Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said, “The Albanese Government is helping build a cleaner, more resilient energy system for Canberrans, putting downward pressure on household electricity costs and supporting the clean energy transition.

“No matter your household’s solar or battery status, our Community Batteries for Household Solar program is making our energy system fairer for all Australians and allowing everyone to reap the benefits of our abundant renewable energy.”
