AGL seeks enviro tick for Beresfield Battery in the Hunter

AGL Energy has submitted its proposed two-hour Beresfield Battery project for environmental approval under the EPBC Act.

The 170MW/340MWh Beresfield Battery is to be built next to an existing 132kV Ausgrid substation in an industrial area in Newcastle in the Hunter Valley.

AGL says the battery has the potential to improve the reliability and stability of the grid.]

“AGL expects the project to provide socioeconomic outcomes including the potential benefits relating to increased employment opportunities. The project is expected to provide up to 75 jobs during the construction phase and up to 2 full time jobs during operation,” the company stated in supporting documents.

The Beresfield Battery project has received planning approval from the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

The Beresfield Battery will be AGL’s third big battery in the Hunter region, alongside the 500MW/1,000MWh Liddell Battery and the 500MW/2,000MWh Tomago Battery.
