Gentailer AGL has announced it will not proceed with its proposed 2.5GW Gippsland Skies offshore wind project in Victoria’s Gippsland offshore wind zone.

In a statement to ABC News the company said, “AGL will prioritise options in its development pipeline of onshore wind, batteries, pumped hydro and gas firming projects.”

Gippsland Skies was one of 11 projects granted a feasibility licence by the federal government in Australia’s first declared offshore wind zone.

Gippsland Skies is now the third abandoned offshore wind project in the Gippsland offshore wind zone, following the cancellation of RWE’s Kent offshore wind farm and BlueFloat Energy’s Gippsland Dawn offshore wind project.

AGL’s cancellation of Gippsland Skies has renewed concerns the Victorian Government will fail to meet its 2GW target of renewable energy from offshore wind by 2032.

Victoria’s auditor general has also released a report warning the state was unlikely to reach this offshore wind target.
