AGL Energy has been named as a finalist in the prestigious 2016 Platts Global Energy Awards, which honours excellence in the energy industry worldwide.

AGL managing director and CEO Andy Vesey said he was pleased the organisation had been nominated in the Industry Leadership-Power category.

“I’m proud that AGL has been recognised in such renowned awards, which is testament to what we have achieved this year as a company and what we stand for,” Mr Vesey said.

“As Australia’s largest private owner, operator and developer of renewable energy generation, AGL is committed to playing a leading role in developing a pathway to a modern and decarbonised electricity sector.

“That means providing our customers with greater choice, more customer-intuitive energy solutions and reducing our carbon footprint through emerging, lower-emission technologies.”

Among the other companies vying to take out the Industry Leadership-Power title are Dominion Resources Inc, Enel, EuroSibEnergo, Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd, Jinko Solar Co., Ltd, San Diego Gas & Electric, SolarReserve, Southern Company and Standard Solar.

Established in 1999, the Platts Global Energy Awards has been described as the Oscars of the energy industry, and recognises corporate and individual innovation, and leadership and superior performance in 17 categories that span the entire energy complex.

Winners will be announced on the evening of December 8, at the Platts Global Energy Awards dinner.
