Australian electrolyser manufacturer Hysata has marked its fifth birthday with major milestone, securing its first commercial order for its record-efficiency electrolyser and marking its transition from technology validation to commercial supply.
The Port Kembla-based company announced the signing of its first megawatt-scale electrolyser commercial deployment, with the system set to be delivered to a significant global customer in the first half of 2027.
While the customer has not yet been publicly identified, the project will operate in a hard-to-abate industrial sector with secured hydrogen offtake, representing a critical step towards large-scale commercial adoption of green hydrogen.

The order comes as Hysata celebrates its fifth anniversary, capping off a period of rapid growth and international expansion. Since launching in 2021, the company has developed what is widely regarded as the world’s most efficient electrolyser, a breakthrough technology designed to dramatically reduce the cost of producing green hydrogen.
Hysata CEO Dr Paul Barrett said the commercial order was a significant endorsement of the company’s technology and a major step forward for the green hydrogen industry.
“Electricity is the largest cost component in green hydrogen production, so improving efficiency is the most powerful lever to reduce the costs to our customers,” Dr Barrett said.
“Our mission has always been to transform the economics of green hydrogen through the world’s most efficient, simple and reliable electrolyser. Securing our first commercial order demonstrates that the market is ready for a new generation of hydrogen production technology.”
The company’s capillary-fed alkaline electrolyser technology uses significantly less energy than conventional systems and operates at 95% efficiency, reducing both operating costs and the complexity of supporting infrastructure. The result is more hydrogen production from every megawatt of installed capacity and stronger project economics for developers and industrial users.
The commercial order follows a successful international demonstration program, including a recent trial in Saudi Arabia with global energy and water infrastructure company Acwa.
Hysata is now working with partners across the Asia-Pacific, North America and South America, while attracting growing interest from potential customers and investors throughout Europe and the Middle East.

With commercial deployment now underway, international partnerships expanding and interest growing across global markets, Hysata’s first five years have established the company as one of Australia’s most promising clean technology success stories.
The next chapter, according to the company, will focus on scaling production, growing its global footprint and helping drive the adoption of green hydrogen in industries where emissions are hardest to eliminate.
