York began his executive career in the heart of Victoria’s energy industry, the Latrobe Valley, becoming CEO of the Hazelwood Power Station and coal mine.

He has worked in the United States, Europe, and South East Asia. Notably, York was CEO of Singapore’s Senoko Energy, with full responsibility for all aspects of managing one of Singapore’s largest power stations, generating around 20% of Singapore’s electricity requirements using modern combined cycle technology, and selling its output to a range of customers from the largest businesses through to individual residents.

He returned to Australia to work for ENGIE in January 2023, leading the Yuri Renewable Hydrogen Project, which is currently being built in the Pilbara, Western Australia, to produce renewable hydrogen as a zero-carbon feedstock for Yara Pilbara Fertiliser’s ammonia production facility in Karratha.

He has also overseen ENGIE’s gas power stations in South Australia, including the flagship 489MW Pelican Point Power Station, which has recently been upgraded to allow it to run more efficiently and at lower levels, to better firm/support the huge amount of renewable energy in the state.
