Once operational, Goulburn River’s 585MWp capacity will generate enough renewable energy to power approximately 225,000 homes, providing a significant source of renewable energy to New South Wales energy users.
It is also expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 910,000 tonnes each year, playing a significant role in supporting Australia’s energy transition goals.
DTI CEO John Anderson says the Goulburn River project is a fantastic example of New South Wales continuing its significant investment in renewable energy.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Lightsource bp on the Goulburn River solar farm. We look forward to contributing our expertise in delivering best-in-class renewable energy solutions and driving positive outcomes for the local community, the energy sector and Australia’s carbon reduction targets,” Anderson says.
“The Goulburn River solar farm will provide huge benefits in terms of renewable energy supply and economic outcomes for the state.”

The 585MWdc Goulburn River Solar Farm, located near Merriwa, will be one of the largest approved single solar farms in the state to reach this stage to date. It will produce approximately 1.3TWh of renewable energy annually.
Notably, it was recently announced as a successful project under the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), which aims to accelerate investment in renewable energy generation and storage to ensure a reliable and affordable energy transition.
