New Zealand multi-network infrastructure company Vector and Origin have partnered to bring smart meters to the Australian market.

An initial tranche of advanced meters will be deployed to New South Wales sites.

Origin CEO energy markets Frank Calabria said the technology will strengthen the relationship between retailers and consumers.

“Customers who choose smart metering will see immediate benefits today, and access innovative products and services in the future,” he said.

Vector Group CEO Simon Mackenzie says it’s an exciting move for both businesses.

“We are looking forward to working with Origin during this transformational period in the Australian energy market,” he said.

“This is a very positive step for Vector, Origin and their customers in preparation for the larger volume smart meter deployments that will be the result of the Power of Choice reform process which starts in December 2017.”
