Minister for Energy, Emissions Reduction and Industry, the Hon. Angus Taylor, officially opened Tindo Solar’s $5 million production line at Tindo Solar’s new factory at Mawson Lakes, in Adelaide.

The new line allows Tindo Solar—the only manufacturer of solar panels in Australia—to build modules that contain the new global standard for solar cell technology, the M10 cell. The production line was made possible by a $1 million Modern Manufacturing Fund grant from the federal government.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Minister Taylor said it was important that Australia continued to make things.

“Great to be here with the Tindo Solar team and seeing their fantastic manufacturing facility,” Minister Taylor said.

“They are doing an absolutely extraordinary job here at Tindo Solar and it was fantastic just a moment ago to launch the upgrade of the facility.

“Australia is number one—the highest rate of household solar in the world. We’re getting up to one in three houses with household solar. That’s why Tindo Solar is such an important business in this country and why we see great opportunities partnering with them here today.”

Tindo Solar CEO Shayne Jaenisch said Minister Taylor’s opening of the new production line was important because it signalled that Australian manufacturing had a part to play in the renewable energy transition.

“We believe that Australia’s aggressive uptake of renewable energy can be matched with Australian technology, innovation and manufacturing,” Jaenisch said.

“The MMF grant we received from the government is an endorsement of Australian expertise.”

Jaenisch said the Tindo Solar production line was the latest technology available and was producing panels at the highest standards of performance and efficiency.

“We are producing the first utility-scale panel ever produced in Australia, the 550 watt Karra. We are also producing the 405 watt Karra for the residential and commercial rooftop market. Both panels contain the M10 solar cell and have been assessed by TUV Korea as being among the most efficient in the world.”
