Splend, Australia’s largest vehicle subscription provider, has added the award-winning Polestar 2 EV to its Australian fleet for use by rideshare drivers.

Eligible drivers in NSW can now access a Polestar 2 Long Range and Standard Range EV through the market leading flexible, rent-to-own plan with Splend that bundles vehicle, finance, insurance and maintenance into a simple weekly subscription. This new innovative offering means Splend will be first-to-market in Australia with a scalable EV product.

Splend’s recent success as the single biggest recipient of the NSW Government’s $105 million Drive Electric fleets incentive (securing $1.8 million), as well as support from Polestar, will see the company have the largest active fleet of Polestars in Australia. Splend is also on track to be the largest single operator of electric vehicles in the nation in the coming months.

Splend’s market-first, affordable Flexi Own plan enables rideshare drivers to seamlessly transition to a brand-new electric vehicle and have the choice to eventually own the car. The company puts drivers first with ongoing dedicated training and support. The first Polestar 2 in Splend’s fleet is now on the road, with the rollout to accelerate rapidly over the next six months.

Splend is on a mission to fast-track the rideshare sector to green mobility through the rapid uptake of electric vehicles and has set a target fleet size of 10,000 EVs across its Australian and UK markets by 2024.

Founder and CEO of Splend Chris King said: “Today is an exciting day for Splend and marks a significant milestone in our mission to electrify rideshare. Transport is the second highest source of climate pollution in Australia, contributing 20% of overall emissions. For each on-demand driver we transition to an EV, we’re removing an estimated 8.5 tonnes of tailpipe carbon out of the atmosphere every year.”

“We are thrilled to offer our members one of the world’s leading EVs on an affordable and flexible plan that enables them to earn more whilst taking crucial steps to drastically reduce emissions in the rideshare industry,” King said.
