Landis+Gyr, Australia’s largest manufacturer of smart meters, has welcomed the report by the Senate Select Committee into electricity prices.
In particular, the company welcomed the report’s support for the planned rollout and use of smart meters as a critical tool in increasing consumers’ ability to manage their energy usage and energy costs.
Landis+Gyr Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia CEO Steve Jeston said the report reinforced the opportunity smart meters could play in helping improve overall energy efficiency.
“We strongly believe consumers will benefit from time-of-use prices, but consumers can only exercise choice when they have real-time and accurate information which can only be obtained by smart meters,” Mr Jeston said.
“It is the availability of real-time information via smart meters that empowers consumers to manage and control their energy use and cost.”
Mr Jeston said the report drives the need for all consumer premises to be equipped with to-the-minute billing information of their electricity usage.
