Simulated substation to train next generation

Energex EsiTrain has unveiled an all-weather substation training facility at its Rocklea site, in Brisbane.

The substation offers a simulated training environment for apprentices, technicians and engineers responsible for the maintenance and testing of industrial and utility substations.

Consisting of a range of high voltage electrical equipment โ€“ including circuit breakers, transformers and capacitor banks โ€“ the facility will be utilised for diagnostic testing, transformer/tap change maintenance, cable testing, circuit breaker maintenance and a range of protection testing including over current and earth fault testing.

As the only training facility of its type in Queensland, the purpose-built substation complements a range of high voltage switching training packages delivered by EsiTrain, with a number of new courses currently under development.

A Registered Training Organisation, EsiTrain is the training department of Queensland electricity supplier, Energex. Courses range from basic compliance training such as resuscitation and rescue from a switchboard to more specialised training including high voltage access and switching procedures.
