It replaces an existing zone substation in Enfield which has been in service for more than 55 years and had reached the end of its working life.

Construction on the new substation began in early 2019 and the project is being delivered on budget.

Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 Ausgrid teams and contractors were able to continue working throughout the pandemic to complete the installation of the electrical equipment.

Two electricity transformers, each weighing 40 tonnes, delivered in December 2019 have now been connected to the grid.

The new substation is part of a wider program of investment to plan for future needs of the electricity network.
