The New South Wales energy market will be further deregulated from July 1, 2017.
Minister for Industry, Resources and Energy, Anthony Roberts made the announcement saying more than 80 per cent of the state’s 1.3 million residential gas customers had already switched away from the regulated price.
Consumers will be given information on how to shop around for the best deal and the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) will continue to monitor the retail electricity market.
The New South Wales government began deregulating the retail electricity market in 2014.
Recently, IPART released a report indicating New South Wales electricity consumers were benefitting from a deregulated market.
