Gas drilling does not preclude a loan: CBA

The Commonwealth Bank has rejected claims by Greens Senator Larissa Waters they do not loan to agribusinesses involved in coal seam gas.

Following a media report last week, the Commonwealth Bank issued a statement assuring agribusinesses with coal seam gas facilities on their properties they would assess their applications on the relative merits.

“Commonwealth Bank assesses every loan application on a case-by-case basis,” the statement said.

“Commonwealth Bank does not have a policy of excluding coal seam gas wells as acceptable security in our regional and agribusiness banking.”
