EnergyAustralia’s Hallett Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in South Australia has reached financial close and will now move into the delivery phase.
Owned and developed by EnergyAustralia, the project is being built alongside the existing Hallett gas‑fired power station and will deliver 50MW of power with five hours of storage in its first stage. Planning approval is already in place for a further 150MW, taking the total site ambition to 200MW.

Hallett BESS has moved from concept to investment decision in under two years, an unusually fast timeframe for infrastructure of this scale. The Hallett BESS will begin construction in the next few weeks with commercial operations expected in mid-2027.
EnergyAustralia trading and transition executive Daniel Nugent said, “This project shows how existing sites can play an important role in the energy transition.
“By building the battery at Hallett, we’re making use of infrastructure that is already there, supporting local jobs and strengthening South Australia’s power system at the same time. Financial close means this project is real, funded and now being built and our focus now shifts squarely to disciplined execution and delivery.
“Projects like Hallett BESS are essential to store that energy and release it when it’s needed most. The battery will help keep the grid reliable and support South Australia’s leadership in clean energy.”
Project delivery partners NHOA Energy has been engaged as the battery integrator, responsible for supplying the batteries and inverters, while Enerven will deliver civil, electrical and construction works.
NHOA Energy vice president Australia & Pacific Adrian Marziano said, “NHOA Energy is honored to have been selected by EnergyAustralia as the system integrator for the Hallett Battery Energy Storage System. This partnership represents a significant milestone in our commitment to delivering world-class energy storage solutions in Australia.

“The Hallett BESS project is another important step forward in Australia’s transition to net zero. By combining NHOA Energy’s proven integration expertise with EnergyAustralia’s vision for a more sustainable energy future, we are building critical infrastructure that will enhance grid stability, support renewable energy deployment, and accelerate the decarbonisation of Australia’s electricity system.
“We look forward to working closely with EnergyAustralia to deliver this transformational project and contribute to a more sustainable energy future for all Australians.”
