Emergency underground cable works in Brisbane

Emergency roadworks

Energex is warning commuters to avoid Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley/Newstead area while emergency underground cable works are being done for the next three to six days.

A fault in an underground cable was detected on Wednesday morning at a major intersection, with Energex having to excavate the road to locate and replace the faulty part.

Energex said on Twitter that works will continue for three or more days as they work around the clock, and urged people to avoid the area if possible.

An Energex spokesperson said they’ve had to excavate and replace the part as the 110,000 volt cable is a major supplier of power to that section of the city.
