It’s official, there is now 5GW of solar power installed in Australia.
New data released by solar statistician and consultancy Sunwiz shows 64MW of rooftop solar was added across the country in the month of June, taking the national cumulative total to 4.964GW.
Rooftop solar energy now represents around 3 per cent of total electricity consumption across Australia.
The Australian solar energy market is growing at around 700MW-800MW a year, according to Sunwiz, and the uptake is expected to increase as more households adopt new battery storage technologies.
Queensland leads the country having Australia’s largest solar capacity, currently 1.534GW and rising. New South Wales is catching up fast generating 1.07GW of solar energy with Victoria currently producing 935MW.
