Aurora launches Twitter outage service

Aurora Energy recently launched a Twitter account for power outage notifications and other information.

Group manager corporate affairs Sarah Baddeley said the Twitter account @AuroraEnergyTAS will be used primarily to notify and update Aurora customers about larger or widespread outages.

The Tasmanian Government-owned electricity distribution and retail company will also use the account to provide information about Aurora and the organisations Aurora sponsors through its community sponsorship program.

Ms Baddeley also said the company had examined the benefit Twitter had offered customers in major events, such as the experience of poles and wires businesses during the Queensland floods.

The Twitter account will complement Aurora’s existing 24-hour fault advisory service, which will continue to be offered on 132 004.

“Aurora is asking Tasmanians to follow our new Twitter account @AuroraEnergyTAS, for information about power outages and emergencies, as well as other information about Aurora and the charities and organisations that Aurora sponsors,” Ms Baddeley said.

Aurora urged customers not to use the account for billing or other issues.
