ACT electricity and gas provider ActewAGL has opened applications for its 2023 Community Grants program, which distributes much-needed funding to a broad range of charities, not-for-profit and grassroots organisations.
Grants of up to $20,000 are available for projects and initiatives that support and enrich the local community across four primary areas: environmental sustainability, at-risk and disadvantaged populations, community engagement and innovation. The program has delivered funding to more than 50 local organisations across the last three years alone.

“Giving back and supporting the community has always been incredibly important to ActewAGL, and we’ve supported hundreds of incredible causes over the course of many years. We’re extremely proud to partner with organisations who are doing amazing work in our local community to help us build a brighter tomorrow. We’re really looking forward to learning more about this year’s applicants,” ActewAGL general manager retail Rachael Turner said.
In 2022, ActewAGL worked with 20 organisations, the largest group since the Community Grants Program began. Recipients included Giralang Garden Collective, Fearless Women, Girl Guides, Care Financial Counselling (Care Inc), Africa 2 Australia, Belconnen Little Athletics and Canberra Youth Theatre.
“Alpen Girl Guide District is beyond pleased to receive this ActewAGL grant! It’s grants like this that help our organisation continue to provide safe and functional properties to facilitate fun and adventurous activities for our future leaders,” Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT strategic communication adviser Kiah Frankel said.
“The Giralang Garden Collective is thrilled to be a recipient of an ActewAGL 2022 Community Grant. This grant is so important to us as it has made a dream of ours a reality—our garden will now have its own self-contained supply of clean, green energy,” Giralang Garden Collective’s Lyndsay Britt said.

“The grant will enable us to purchase and install solar panels, a power station system and electric water pump! It is our hope that the Giralang Garden Collective will pioneer the way for other groups across Canberra to set up similar initiatives for the benefit of their local communities.”
